The sounds in the Hegar Sound Set are 8 inches long and have a very slight curvature. They are much lighter and shorter than the solid sounds such as the Van Buren, Pratt, and Hank. Each Hegar Sound is double-sided and features a different size at each end, which allows for easy and pleasant transition as one increases the size of the they sound that they are inserting.

Each type and size of sound will have their own unique feel to the sounder. Some prefer Hegar Sounds due to their lighter weight. However, given the choice and a slightly larger budget, many more experienced sounders will prefer a solid sound set such as the Pratt or Van Buren Sound Set. The Pratt and Van Burens are solid and will provide more thermal conductivity when chilled or warmed in water for increased stimulation.

Clean your Hegar Sounds with warm water and antibacterial dish soap, then wipe down with alcohol and allow to air dry before use. Remember to make sure that both your hands and the sound are very clean before starting sound play. The use of surgical gloves for sound play is also a great idea. Never use sounds on more than one person.
